change magnitude level
I would like to be able to change the magnitude level of the stars so what I see on my phone resembles what I see with my eyes. I mainly use the app hand held and find it can be a bit confusing at times because there are too many stars on the screen.
I have added the setting for relative scale in Map settings > Stars.
The update (v8.4.0) is being rolled out now.
The absolute and relative scale will take care of adapting the stars to the visible magnitude level.
For catalog objects, the Pro version has a detailed catalog filter.
Thanks for all the feedback and ideas. I have created separate topics for them. If I missed some, do feel free to add a new topic yourself.

The feature works great for me.
For Messier, NGC and IC, the tiny line between the label and marker isn't dimmed when reducing opacity. I would suggest this line to match the opacity of the label.
Thank you. -

@guntbert_reiter There is no "magnitude filter" setting in the video. However, this feature is being designed. It will require a combination of new settings, and the video is just a preview of the UI that will host these settings in the future.
I am intentionally releasing only the simple and well understood settings in the first-cut.
There is one setting shown in the video that is relevant. "Stars -> Absolute scale" which configures the size of the star graphic drawn on screen. One can use this as a quick-and-dirty way to match the screen view to actual sky view.

After looking at the video I am not sure if the update will allow to filter by magnitude - it looks like there is a great deal of customizing opacity of various elements - but no mentioning of a magnitude filter. I'd really appreciate that because I know (from experience on my palm) that where I live I only can see object brighter than 4 under optimal conditions.

I agree... while it nice to see all the stars on the screen something that more closely resembled what we see above us would be more beneficial. A magnitude limit and blanking below the horizon are tow additions that would enhance the app.

I think changing the magnitude levels would be helpful for "push to" users in light polluted skies - less confusing in terms of the number of stars. Also it may be possible to synchronise with the magnitudes of the star atlas you are using.

I would really like to filter the alignment stars by magnitude. I only need a handful of stars for alignment, not many hundreds to sift through.

Being able to reduce the magnitude of displayed stars would make this app even better for beginners.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I would like to pick a magnitude such that anything dimmer is filtered out. That would make it easier to find the names of stars, etc, by hand.
