small bug: deleting a single alignment object deletes all alignment objects
skeye pro 6.11b
Wanted to update an alignment point in the menu->indirect mode view, tapped it long and saw no update option there but only remove so I used that, however this deleted all other alignment points too.
Had a great time with SKeye otherwise, this program is great !

4 votesSorry for the surprising behaviour!
In the current implementation, deleting an alignment affects later alignments. That is why, if you delete one alignment, the later ones get deleted.
In recent versions, this is clearly indicated in the deletion confirmation message. Hopefully, that will reduce the surprise.
I might support deletion of a single alignment, but it’s unlikely in the near future. Hence, closing this idea.

Making SkEye the most advanced Sextant in the world
Since you have made all the engine needed to get from GPS fix/Time to the exact positions of all the planets in the sky you would be able to get to the next challenge... calculate the reverse process... from the positions of the sky objects calculate the longitude and latitude of the observer current fix... and feed Android location system as a Celestial navigation system... those making the most advanced Sextant in the world...!!! You can have also the camera enabled to spot the stars and the moon (as a head up display) and collect the phone position in space…
3 votesIt’s definitely a nice and feasible concept, and as you say, it is useful in emergency situations. Though right now I am too tied up with other stuff. Perhaps in the future.
Thanks for suggesting.

The developer console indeed shows that the HTC One V is not compatible.
The minimum requirements for the app are accelerometer and compass.
Can you guys confirm if HTC One V has these sensors?
Update:
Closing since this device doesn’t have the minimum requirements. However SkEye can still be sideloaded from alternative stores such as SlideMe or AndroidPit -
Add option to disable lockscreen while using SkEye
When making observations at night, using SkEye with the Night color scheme, I tend to turn off the screen of my Android device between sightings to save battery. Turning the device on brings up the lockscreen which is extremely bright by comparison, destroying night adaptation in seconds.
3 votesThanks for the idea Alain, but I don’t it is possible for an app to disable the lock screen, for security reasons.
Adrian’s suggestion seems like the right, and only, option; disabling the lock screen from settings.

Thanks for the idea, but there is a similar one posted already. Hence closing this one. Please look up the other one and cast your vote on it.
(I realise you have mentioned equipment while the other one hasn’t, but it would have been supported anyway).

screen timeout bug
I'm using version 5.5 on an LG Optimus. After closing the program, the screen timeout is still disabled until I force close SkEye. Expected behavior: screen timeout is disabled only when SkEye is visible on the screen, not when other apps or the home screen are visible.
1 voteUnable to reproduce this error with latest version.

Thanks Peter. There’s another similar idea already:

Please vote up that idea.
Closing this as a duplicate. Though, this idea has a better title for sure :P

Bug - no labels displayed
SkEye 5.6 on Huawei U8220 running stock Android 2.1.
SkEye looks very impressive but none of the stars are labelled.

BUG
The App causes my Droid Incredable to reboot every five minutes. I used the App before my phone started the continuous reboot loop and did a Factory reset. After the reset I installed the App and it started to reboot every five minutes.

fix a data base error
Skeye shows two stars named Alniyak near Antares. One of them (the one with 2.8 or 2.82 magnitude)Alniyak
(Android, v6.10, non-Pro)
1 voteHi,
Thanks for noticing, but the database is correct. There are indeed two stars named Al Niyat. See

Bug Report: On Kindle Fire V6.3.2, only shows South.
Bug: On Kindle Fire V6.3.2, always points to South.
No "Azm" sensitivity.
"Alt" appears to work correctly, nadir to zenith.
Same symptom in portrait or landscape orientation.1 voteThis was probably because the particular model of Kindle Fire didn’t have a magnetometer.

Can you add calibration function? Then automatic search can work with only 1 sensor - accelerometer. Many phones have only an accelerometer.
Once calibrated (say with North Horizon or a known object) all movements of the phone can be tracked using accelerometer readings and the current position and orientation can be calculated and used for automated search of an object.
1 voteHey, thanks for the suggestion.
But it is not possible to do this without two sensors: accelerometer and magnetometer.
One helps find altitude, while the other helps with the azimuth.
For using SkEye with phones that don’t have the requisite sensors, I am working on a feature called remote sensors:
https://www.reddit.com/r/skeye/wiki/remote-sensorsThe feature is in beta, but it seems to work well and will graduate from beta very soon.

Calculating true north from rotation of equatorial mount
Assume:
Equatorial mount is properly alligned
equatorial mount is moved continuously in equatorial axis at 15’’/s (clock drive)One could calculate “true north” from rotation
1 voteFredrik, thanks for this idea.
Quick note: I implemented something like this in my new app "SkEye Cam". It uses plate solving to figure out precise orientation, and then with RA axis rotation, the app can guide polar alignment itself.
The app uses plate solving to provide PushTo guidance as well.
The camera is much more reliable than IMU sensors, so I guess this idea is not that relevant anymore. Hence, closing.
