SkEye App

SkEye aims to be an advanced planetarium for Android.

  1. The ability to create observing plans.

    Great and useful app for our astronomers!.. If i may come with a feature request:
    If one could create a observing list beforehand, and then later select these objects.
    for example before your viewing session you search a object you want to observe and when you have found it you get the option to "add to observing list"
    When your list is ready, skeye saves these objects and then, during your observing session, the user can select these objects one by one and skeye will point to that object.
    I hope you understand what i mean.

  2. calculate the FOV based on scope and eyepiece and auto zoom to that level like stellarium's plugin.

    Maybe calculate the FOV based on scope and eyepiece and auto zoom to that level like stellarium's eyepiece plugin. This would make it easier to use for polar alignment (showing exactly what you should see in the eyepiece). This view may need to be inverted depending on the type of scope being used I think.

  3. Add a voice recorder and observation logger

    With voice recording and observation logging functions SkEye could get closer to being an all-in-one tool for observers. Keep up the good job and thank you!

  4. Align to the zenith (or any other fixed point)

    Keep the telescope in perfect vertical (using bubble level) and align using the zenith coordinates.

    Reopening, because I think there is potential here for creative uses that I hadn’t thought of before.

    Such as aligning a radio antenna to East (as suggested by Adrian on email).

  5. Create star tours and lists

    Create star tours or perhaps a Messier marathon list. Create a tour relevant to location and time of year. Make it so that the user can locate the item on the list using your virtual dsc's and then check it off, move on to the next item. Users could even upload their own favorite observing list for that certain time of year eg Uncle Rod's mid March Messier madness, and other user could use your interface to eperience the same observation list. Great idea and app by the way. Keith

  6. Import Viewing Plan from AstroPlanner

    Ability to import viewing plans from Astro-Planner (or other applications of the same type) and integrate this with some type of journaling capability.

  7. Polar Alignment Tools

    I use SkEye for aligning my Star tracker (currently MSM, soon to be Star Adventurer 2i as well) and I think there are a handful of features which would make SkEye the clear choice for this style of quick phone based PA for wide field astrophotography.

    1) I've added this to my Custom Catalog in the Pro version, but it would be nice to have the NCP and SCP as searchable targets in the database. One of may favourite things in SkEye is the green reticle literally pointing you to the target. Very useful for Polar Alignment.

    2) Polar Alignment…

  8. Create Reminders from Time Machine

    (Edited to remove idea of year selection)

    Am fascinated with your Time Machine feature.

    I want to be able to make reservations with whatever I see in the telrad with corresponding time and have it notified to me just right before the reservation time .. For example,, I may see Uranus and Neptune so close together on a future date and I can really screenshot it and save it ,but I would rather reserve the time and have it notified to me within a week notice , for example.. So I can forget about it until the time has come

    The ability to jump to a year was added in a recent SkEye release.

    The ability to mark an event in the calendar is a nice idea. SkEye could just add an event in the user’s calendar. It wouldn’t have to keep track of the event itself!

  9. Add a "red light" function (making all screen red)

    useful when mounting telescope, annotate, read a paper and so on...

  10. Add ability to create and share custom constellations or asterisms.

    In a user interface allow me to create and share my own constellations. Allow me to toggle these on and off or use another color, esp for asterisk like big dipper within Ursa Major. It would perhaps allow me to more personally identify with patterns of stars in the sky. Also allow me to selectively use constellations from other cultures.

  11. Ideas for widgets

    One that shows the moonrise and sunset time, another with percentage of moon visibility (maybe like a moon shaped thing, waxes and wanes accordingly).

  12. Polar Alignment Tools: NCP & SCP as targets in catalog

    Splitting my original post out into one idea per post;

    https://skeye.uservoice.com/forums/93533-skeye-app/suggestions/45140077-polar-alignment-tools

    Add the North & South Celestial Poles into the catalog so that they can be searched and targeted. This will help with initial polar alignment, and may even be sufficiently accurate for very wide field astrophotography for exposures up to a few minutes.

    I use this method already to get 2 minute exposures using up to 35mm lenses on my Full Frame cameras.

  13. Polar Alignment Tools: PA Mode

    Splitting my original post out into one idea per post;

    https://skeye.uservoice.com/forums/93533-skeye-app/suggestions/45140077-polar-alignment-tools

    Have a Polar Alignment Mode where when enabled the device is assumed to be locked off on a tripod (no handheld movement/jitter). From here, have SkEye filter outlying sensor readings (standard deviation function or similar) so that the readings can be more readily relied upon for Polar Alignment within a degree or so accuracy.

    This is generally good enough for very wide astrophotography. For instance, the MSM star tracker provides a laser pointer for those in the Northern Hemisphere to point to Polaris, which is about 45 arcmin off…

  14. Polar Alignment Tools: Offeset Mode

    Splitting my original post out into one idea per post;

    https://skeye.uservoice.com/forums/93533-skeye-app/suggestions/45140077-polar-alignment-tools

    The further you get from the equator, the higher in the sky the NCP & SCP get. Currently I have my phone mounted perpendicular to my Star Tracker to get alignment which makes it very hard sometimes to get down to view and control the phone. Would be awesome if there was an offset option in SkyEye so I could mount my phone horizontal to my tracker with the screen facing upwards. SkEye would effectively offset all the values coming from the sensor by 90 degrees so on the…
