Southern Celestial pole star
Include Sigma Octantis in the basic database, the closest naked eye star to the Southern Celestial pole.
Used to align basic camera to take star trails photos.3 votesIn order to include Sigma Octantis, I had to bump the number of named stars from 1200 to 2400!
I had to also enable searching bayer designations by name. For example, searching for sigma would search for “σ Oct”.
Will be available in next release.

Increase upper limit of the "Label Scale" setting
Adding "Label Scale" setting (in Map Settings->General) was excellent idea, however the current maximum of that setting is too small. Increasing the maximum would allow short-sighted users to avoid using eyeglasses during observing sessions.
3 votesThanks for the feedback. I have bumped the upper limit of the label scale to 4 (from the current limit of 2).
If that's not sufficient, let me know. I am hesitant to bump it beyond 4 because it might fail in some unforeseen way.
The changes will be available in SkEye 9.0.
Note: The Pro version is rolling out this month. The Free version will probably roll out next month as it needs some more work.

Names of constellations
Show names of constellations, not just constellation lines.

Display improvements
Optionally hide labels and lines
To make this wonderful app even more useful as a teaching tool, perhaps you would consider adding these menu options: (1) Hide star names; (2) Hide constellation names; (3) Hide constellation lines. Is it possible to let the “ecliptic line” be a little bit better visible?
2 votesThanks for the idea. All of this is now available under the “Map settings” option.

Show the Galilean moons of Jupiter, and perhaps also Titan
This would be helpful to star-gazers with binoculars. Jupiter and its moons are an arresting sight in the Southern Hemisphere at present.
2 votesFor the Galilean moons, I am marking this as completed.
For Saturn’s moons and rings, I have created separate ideas here:

Have an all-red night mode
When it's used in DSC mode, even in "night" mode, the circle turns from red to green as you home in on the target object. This is a no-no as far as I'm concerned: please can we have an option so that, in "night mode" it stays red, maybe changing in brightness as we home in on the object.
2 votesThe latest release of SkEye (6.3) has a pure red night mode.
Thanks for the feedback.

auto rotate user interface (landscape mode)
I'm using this on a tablet, but I don't hold my tablet in portrait mode, I hold it with both hands usually or with one hand on the bottom in landscape mode. However the user interface does not auto rotate with the rest of the star chart. It would be nice to have everything rotate when the device switches from one orientation to another, not just the star chart. Would make this more tablet friendly. :)
1 voteHi Sal,
There is already an option to do this. Menu → Settings → Principal Orientation.
Can be set to Auto, Portrait or Landscape. I would recommend the latter for you.cheers,

Maps Skeye vibrate strongly.
Maps Skeye vibrate strongly with NGM Quasar. Maybe because the internal magnetometer is not very sensitive. However, with Google SkyMap it does not. Probably Skeye must mediate multiple readings provided by the magnetometer?
1 voteHi Marco,
SkEye does a lot of filtering of magnetometer readings. Perhaps you can try decreasing the sensitivity in the settings.
For more details you can read the documentation here:

How about linking to Heavens Above and plot the sattelite info on the display?
we often have haze near the coast, add light, trees (in my case) etc and its often difficult to see enough stars to identify the constellations it passes through.
1 voteI have implemented real-time satellite tracking. It is available as an early preview in SkEye Pro 2.2.
I still need to provide configuration options for it, but the core algorithms have been implemented, hence marking this as complete.

Support for tablets (large size displays)
Good morning Harshad,
Great upgrades. I am getting very close to purchasing a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Does SkEye scale to the tablet?
1 voteI just got my Asus Transformer today and tested out SkEye.
It scales well to the Tablet size. Sure, I could optimise for the big size, but it does quite well right now.

No data base. does not display any names or lables
I have a htc hdma hero rooted and with CyanogenMod gingerbread rom. Skeye 3.1 works fine except displayes no names or lables for anything. Just a screen full of stars and constellation lines. Do I need Pro to get these??
1 voteNo reply; marking this as done for now.

Journaling...
Add logging functionality accessible to the end user that acts like a journal of objects found. The text to speech function in Android would be a good way to take notes in the field while I'm observing.
1 voteNice idea Steve.
Incidentally, Pietro created a very similar idea that has more votes and subscribers.
I can’t merge the ideas in this website (under the free plan). So can you and David please upvote Pietro’s idea?
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Port to run on Blackberry Z10.
Android phones are good at running apps, but are not very good as a telephone. The Blackberry is a very good phone but with limited applications. The new Z10 can run Android apps such as Kindle etc... I am therefore wondering how to go about porting SkEye to my BB10.
1 voteFrom what I understand, the newest Blackberry branded phones support Android apps natively.
This may not work for older Blackberries, and I never managed to move this forward, but I am marking it as "completed".

The ability to lock the screen on
Hi, I have just got the app & moving up from Google sky in conjunction with my telescope. I'm wondering if its possible to stop my screen timing out/ locking. With Google sky the screen will not go lock until you exit the app.
Any chance of this being worked in?
1 votePushed a new release 6.4.1 in which the screen stays on on all my devices.
The previous version released today (6.4.0b) had a silly mistake.

Bug: 'More' option in option menu not showing up.
Currently on my EVO in SkEye when I use the 'More' option in the options menu it appears black. I can tell it is a color issue because selecting the black button I can see the Full Screen and Settings options.
It also appears that I am stuck in night mode. Selecting "Night Mode" does nothing.I have the latest version, I even uninstalled and reinstalled the app but still have this issue.
BTW I am the app developer for Telescope Flashlight and Telescope Calculator. Currently working on night mode for the latter-- very painful to implement especially since now…
1 voteFixed in version 0.9.10!
Thanks for the detailed report. Another user was complaining but the report was vague. With your description I was able to nail it in 2 minutes!
About night mode, it only shuts off the soft key backlights, and only on phones that support it.
Good luck with your apps!

1 voteNo response from user. Assuming that the issue is resolved.
Please add a comment if still experiencing this problem.

add a filter to only display certain objects in the fov
It would be nice to be able to filter out different layers (galaxies, stars, planets, meteors, satellites etc)
Also beta 6.3 working good on my s4 FYI :)
1 vote@Adam
Thanks for the suggestions.
Changes along these lines have been implemented in the latest version of SkEye.
Please have a look at this video:
http://youtu.be/61au6VQTZRUThis is a work in progress and many more settings will be available in the future.
